With this cold weather and having just had my worse cold of the season with some pretty powerful sneezes, this cartoon struck a cord with me. Bear hugs, Frankie

Yep it's been cold lately. My thermometer has been hovering around -20 and less for a couple of weeks. The mushers on the first nite of the Yukon Quest dog-sled race had to brave -60, at least that's where the thermometer bottomed out! It thinned out the field somewhat in the first couple days.
Too bad it doesn't put a freeze on some irrational thinking around these parts. A freeze on pursuing drilling in the Beaufort Sea or creating the Pebble Mine might be "cool," so to speak. Putting some of those "extra" Alaska Billions towards alternate energy research, or at the least, admitting there is just a chance there might be global warming?
But maybe since it's been exceptionally cold, the freeze seems to have gone deeper than normal. Where normally the cold affects one's motor skills, judgment, and general overall thinking, it seems to me it has completely frozen all powers of reason, logic, and even memory among some of those who are making decisions around here.
It occurs to me that dependency upon oil and coal is much like an addiction. And those in power who are seriously addicted to the profits are exhibiting some serious irrational behavior and denial.
Hugs, David
